Help wanted!

images.jpg

Recently we have been praying and hoping that the Lord would send some others to join us in ministry in Gyor. As ministry grows and changes we need help and are simply unable to do more. We have some great local people who help with various different ministries, but we really could do with a missionary/missionary couple or missionary family to partner with us. Could that be you? Or perhaps you know someone who may be interested? Here is a list of areas that we need help in:

  1. Expanding ministry to orphans (we have a desire to see this work grow)
  2. Leading Bible studies (we have two weekly)
  3. Helping with worship and/or preaching
  4. Starting an English language club
  5. Helping with ladies coffee morning or starting a group for men
  6. Pastoral care
  7. Hosting visitors and teams
  8. Whatever else the Lord puts on your heart!

If you might be interested, please contact me via the contact form. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Handball

Yesterday evening we were blessed to take eight kids from the orphanage to the Audi Arena in Gyõr to see the Gyõr ETO ladies handball team (1st in the Hungarian league) play second place Érd. With a crowd of 5000 people present the atmosphere was electric! ETO won 35-20 in an incredibly fast match that was non-stop action. As a sports fan it was a pleasure to see these women play with such skill, speed and power.
The kids loved it! Cheering, clapping, stamping their feet and shouting the entire time!

Our thanks to Reni Sashalmi and the ETO handball team for making this possible and very kindly providing the tickets for free.

Report from Northgate

The following video is a report from the team that recently joined us in ministry at the orphanage in Győr where we serve on a weekly basis. The team were with us in Hungary for nine days and served at the orphanage for five days. I hope you find the video interesting and informative!

An incredible camp at the orphanage!

This past week we held a five day camp at the orphanage in Gyor. We received permission to work with the kids on both floors (each floor belongs to a different government department). From 9am to midday Monday through Friday we sang worship songs, made crafts, had Bible messages and dramas, played football and had lots of fun! Overall we served 20 kids.
A group of seven people from Batavia, New York State    www.northgate.fmc.co m joined us and made the camp possible. Together we partnered in helping these kids come to know more about the love of God. We are very grateful to them for their excellent work! Also thanks to Kathy for her very hard work in communicating with both government organisations, translating and hosting the team. Nobody I knows works as tirelessly and selflessly as she does. Special thanks to Csilla, Zsuzsi, Katica, Zsolti, Gabi and Adam for being great volunteers!!!!

On Friday the team enjoyed lunch with the kids at the orphanage. I had a lunch meeting with the Irish ambassador to Hungary and the deputy mayor of Gyõr which was productive and has opened up some possible new doors to ministry in the future. However I think the kids, team and local volunteers had more fun then me 😀

These little ones are in real danger from those who intend evil. Please join us in prayer that lives would be transformed and that the Lord would keep them safe in his hands.

Busy days!

The last few days have been very busy indeed. On Saturday we took three of the boys from the orphanage to the zoo. We had so much fun! They boys loved the animals, particularly the bears, tigers and chimpanzees. My favourite quote of the day was when one of the boys said “Uncle Gerry is just like a bear, except he wears clothes” 😂 Just have to love these kids!!! Kathy prepared sandwiches and drinks so we had a picnic and we all enjoyed ice cream afterwards.

On Thursday we had wonderful visitors from America spend an afternoon and evening with us. Drew and Kathy Price and Bill and Sheri Baker took time out from their European vacation to drop by and visit us in Gyor and hear about our ministry. Drew is pastor of Compass Church in Bend, Oregon    http://www.compassbend.com/#/home    and they are very missions minded. We look forward to partnering with them in the future!

I’m off to Belgium soon to teach and would appreciate your prayers as I spend the next couple of days in final preparations for that time!

Answered prayers and future plans

We are thankful to the Lord for the wonderful strides we are making in the orphanage. More and more kids are joining us for games, English lessons and sports every week! As they join us we begin to talk about their hopes and fears, dreams for the future and develop relationships that we pray will last into eternity!!!

Until recently we had really only connected well with the younger kids but now the Lord has opened up the hearts of the older teenagers and we are seeing them join us more and more in activities.

Very soon, both ‘L’ and ‘K’ turn 18. Please pray that we can continue to strengthen our relationship with them both as they have to leave the orphanage because of turning 18.

Our plans for a five day camp at the orphanage with a team from the Northgate Free Methodist Church continue to move forward and we look forward to hosting the team in July. Please do pray for this team of seven people as they come to serve in Hungary!

2016, the year ahead.

calendar_2016_template_round_button_6815001.jpg2016 is shaping up to be a great year! We have so much planned already and are excited about what the Lord has planned for us this coming year. We want to share a few of our planned trips and ministry events with you and ask you to partner with us in prayer for this year.

In January we hope to be in Denmark for a few days as we celebrate the wedding of a wonderful Christian young couple. I was very honoured that they asked me to do a pre-wedding blessing for them over the Christmas period. Please pray for Erin and Jonathan as they prepare for married life together!

In March I hope to visit with Free Methodist church leaders in Belgium and France and serve them by helping to further equip these men and women of God and hopefully be an encouragement to them also.

Come the Summer we hope to have a team of eight people join us from America who will serve by helping run a five day evangelistic camp at the orphanage we serve in on a weekly basis. In June I hope to travel to Ukraine to help equip church leaders there and God willing we will travel to Ireland in August for a few weeks to talk at churches and have a vacation.

We will also continue with our Bible study group and weekly ministry at a local orphanage in Győr. Kati and I will also continue our twice monthly trips to Budapest (she will continue teach English to social workers and I will teach English at a family help center for a few weeks). We also hope to continue our work supporting and helping the needy of Győr and we are actively trying to gain access to a local center for the homeless. Kati has already made good contact with them and we believe the Lord is opening this door before us.

We are grateful for your prayers and support and are thankful that we can call you our partners in ministry! We pray that you are all blessed in 2016!

Christmas service at the orphanage

image

Today we went to the orphanage to hold a Christmas service for the kids. What an honour to present the Gospel to these kids! Nine of the twelve kids were present and we enjoyed singing worship songs, a drama presentation, prayer and the giving of gifts.

Afterwards we had some really meaningful chats with the kids. One of the older boys (L – 17 years old) and Gerry talked for a good twenty minutes. Please pray that this will open the door for further conversation in the future.

We are grateful to so many people. Financial support from a kids group in New York, local fellowship folks who made beautiful cards with Bible verses and donated soft toys, and you all for praying for these kids!

One of the older boys got the following verse: Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32

Our prayer is that all these kids will know the truth and be set free!!!

Cinema with the kids

image

Today we had the pleasure of bringing six of the kids from the orphanage to the cinema. For Mark it was only his second time at the cinema and he had a blast! All the kids enjoyed a 3D movie with plenty of soft drinks and sweets!

This Sunday we will go to the orphanage to hold a Christmas service and give gifts to the kids. Please be in prayer that the Gospel message would touch them and the carers who are present.

Many thanks to a great group of kids in New York State in the USA for raising support for this work!

Fun at the orphanage!

We had a lot of fun at the orphanage today! I (Gerry) have started to accompany Kati to the orphanage on Monday afternoons.

We played card games like Solo and Ketchup, did drawing and colouring and practised English a little. We had seven kids with us today (one who is new to the orphanage), and it was a blessing to be with them.

The director of the orphanage has asked us to hold a Christmas service for the kids December 6th! What an honour and a great opportunity to preach the Gospel! The director has also asked us for practical help with a food drive.

Please pray for us as we work with the kids to have patience and wisdom. We noticed some young men hanging around the orphanage as we entered. Some of them act as pimps to young girls.
Please pray that Gerry would have an opportunity to talk to them and that these men would come to Christ.

If you wish to help we would be grateful for handicrafts. Neither of us are talented with handcrafts but occasionally others help and the kids really enjoy this activity.
